Survival expert Bob Cooper

Water, warmth, signals, shelter and food are the top 5 priorities in a survival situation, according to survival expert Bob Cooper.

Mr Cooper was in Gingin last week to instruct a group of women in the ways of bush survival. He said he visited Gingin several times a year to teach the course.

Mr Cooper’s top tip is do not panic – be rational and not emotional in a stressful situation.

“Knowledge dispels fear so we teach people how to read maps, use a compass or the sun and stars to navigate,” he said.

“We also show people how to manage water, create fire and signal for help.”
