Bob Cooper was born and educated in Perth, Western Australia.
He worked as a commercial fisherman and professional diver in the early years of his life.
His bushcraft skills have been developed over more than 25 years of experience. These include living with traditional Aboriginal people in our Western Desert, instructing with Special Forces Units, lecturing with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Service on desert survival in the Mexican Desert, delivering Wilderness lessons in the UK and learning bushcraft skills from the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana.
He has organised many ventures throughout Australia, from social adventures with international celebrities and film stars, to personal development courses for "Youth at Risk". In 2000 Bob was filmed by National Geographic America conducting his advanced survival courses in a series called "True Survivors". More recently two documentaries with the BBC and a 60 Minutes feature.
He is a frequent guest speaker on ABC national radio and has featured on most "lifestyle" television programs in Western Australia. He has also been a guest speaker on subjects relating to his expertise on desert survival training on a great number of occasions in the past decades in Australia, USA and UK. As a guest speaker his lectures have been centred on the development of his mini survival kit and his original solo walk that he successfully accomplished without any backup in 1986.
It was and is a daunting thought of being dropped off in 42C heat in the Australian Outback with only a map and a soap box size survival kit, no food, no water, no sleeping gear, you face walking 160 kilometres in 10 days of rough terrain in one of the most unforgiving regions of the world - alone. This he did to demonstrate that with knowledge and a tiny amount of gear - you can survive.
Bob has a long term commitment to protect and enhance the enjoyment of people venturing into the Australian outback environment, and for this in 1996 his "Outback Safety and Survival Course" won the prestigious award for "Excellence in Safety Training" from the Safety Institute of Australian - WA. This was the beginning of the Mk III Mini Survival Kit commercial production.
Now based in Perth, Western Australia, Bob conducts a variety of bushcraft related courses.
